Stunning antique closed back thick faceted pink paste necklace set in silver on a fine paper clip style chain in the Girandole style with 3 tear drop paste, one on either side of a hand painted portrait and one drop below. The painting is set under glass and is a portrait of Marie Antoinette dressed as a shepherdess which she enjoyed doing during her country escapes and courtly plays.
It measures 8 1/2" long, 7" on either side of the chain. The painting is about 5/8 in either direction. The tear drop pastes about 3/8", the round pastes across the collar are over 1/8" across and over 1/8 thick when measured with a standard fabric tape, so these measurements are approximate to give an idea of size. The necklace is in excellent condition, all the colors bright and beautiful and appears to have never been worn, but if it was, very seldom. All original with the twisted o-ring and t-bar to the back; some smart person added the Deco stamped sterling locking ring closure at a later date, probably for better security, but kept the original t-bar off to the side.A truly gorgeous piece that any Victorian lady would have been proud to own and wear! It is unsigned but I would say it is French in origin and circa 1880. The item "Antique Closed Back Sterling Pink Paste Girandole Marie Antoinette Necklace" is in sale since Wednesday, June 3, 2020.
