Sterling Silver Soup Bowls by Paul Storr - Antique George IV (1829). An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George IV English sterling silver soup plates made by Paul Storr; an addition to our range of ornamental dining silverware. These exceptional antique George IV sterling silver soup bowls / plates have a plain circular form.The raised borders of these Paul Storr soup bowls are embellished with an exceptionally crisp and impressive contemporary engraved coat of arms encircled with the motto of the Baronetage of Nova Scotia:'Fax Mentis Honestæ Gloria' - Glory is the light of a noble mind and surmounted with a Lord of Parliament's coronet, all above the motto'Ryde Through'. The opposing side of the aforementioned plateaued border is embellished with a bright cut engraved simplified floral design. Each antique silver bowl is ornamented with an exceptional cast and applied gadroon decorated shaped border to the rim accented with large scrolling leaf designs. The deep circular well of each soup plate is plain and unembellished. The underside of each piece of this soup plate set retains the silversmith's original centre punch mark. These impressive examples of antique silverware were crafted by the renowned and collectable London silversmith Paul Storr. This coat of arms pertains to John Hamilton of Broomhall, the 1st Lord Belhaven and Stenton. At time of manufacture there was no extant baronetcy in the Hamilton family and it can be determined that these plates/bowls belonged to the Lord Belhaven and Stenton.
These antique Paul Storr soup bowls are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is exceptionally crisp.
There are some natural surface marks in keeping with age and use. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each soup bowl are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique Paul Storr silver.
