Antique Georgian Solid Silver Austro Hungarian cutlery set 1810 Pecs J Posz

Georgian era Solid Silver Austro Hungarian Cutlery Set 1810 Pecs Jacobus Posz. This antique set of 24 piece is well marked to the back with Hungarian and Austro Hungarian hallmarks. The spoons are marked with those used in 1810 in Pecs Hungary. There are maker's mark of JP and J Posz and the pieces are marked 13 for 13 loth silver, an assay of 812/1000.

The maker's marks are for Jacobus Posz. The spoons are fine examples with only a few marks from storage of use.

The detail to the edges of the bowls are crisp and clean. The silversmiths tooling marks are faintly evident to the bowls. The spoons are engraved to the ends L. One teaspoon has a small indent as shown. The amazing knives and forks have the Austro Hungarian Diana mark used after 1867 until 1872.

The marks indicate a P, for the town of Pest, to the right hand side and 3 to the lower left in a scalloped shape indicating a silver fineness of 800. They are also marked BU for an unknown maker. The steel blades are in lovely condition and only show some faint grey marks. The blades are fine steel made by J. The forks also bear their logo.

It is rare to find knives and forks of this age in this condition. These are not stainless steel but finely crafted steel. The steel rod that is the continuation of the blade inside the silver handle travels the entire length of the handle and appears at the ends as a nail head type shape atop the silver knob. This secures the silver handle in place.

Each knife and fork handle is engraved Sk M. The knives are 255mm long, the forks are 225mm long, the large spoons are 215mm long and the teaspoons are 155mm long.
