Splendid Antique George IV Hallmarked Solid Sterling Silver Snuff Box With Engraved Leopard Motif Made by Edward Smith. Description - Wonderful rectangular good gauge solid silver snuff box with hinged lid and lovely cast and applied chased foliate thumb piece. The lid and base both have nice engine turned decoration and there is a central cartouche which has an engraved Leopard motif above a monogram, the sides have reeded decoration, the interior richly gilded (Gold washed).
The box is fully hallmarked with the anchor for Birmingham assay, the lion passant indicating 925 grade solid sterling silver, the King's head, the date letter "F" for the year 1829 and the makers mark "E S" which is. Condition - The box is in very good condition there are no dents, dinks, splits, holes or repairs. The hinge is in excellent order closing the lid flush, the decoration is in in good order but has lost a bit of definition with some wear to the base. The interior silver- gilt is nice and bright but has some wear to the base there is some slight thinning are just a couple of minor stains.
