ENGLISH STERLING STRAWBERRY DISH c1750 DESIGN - DRAGON HEAD & SWORD. A very fine vintage British sterling silver strawberry dish. A superb re-creation of a c1750 design. A raised sword with impaled dragon's head.

Founded by Lionel Alfred Crichton c1890. The firm specialized in fine silver and antique re-creations such as this. Strawberry dishes are found in England as early as the mid-18th century. They actually had many uses, including being used to serve salad.

Today, the term strawberry dish refers to any circular dish with fluted sides and scalloped rim, measuring from seven to nine inches (this example is 9 1/2 inches). Waldron discusses this form pages 160-162, and illustrates several examples pretty much identical to the dish we offer today. This c1920 British sterling strawberry dish is 9 1/2 inches diameter.
