ENGLISH STERLING DISH CROSS 1781 WILLIAM PLUMMER A fine and rare 1781 British sterling silver dish cross. From the well listed London shop of William Plummer. Dish crosses were first observed in the mid 18th century, making this a fairly early examples. Used to warm plates of various sizes, with sliding supports. A nearly identical example to the one offered today is illustrated and discussed in Waldron page 133.Period engraved family crest to burner. This rare 1781 British dish cross is 10 1/2 inches long. And weighs 16 1/2 standard ounces. Supports slide freely to and from center.
