The interior is in a warm golden gilt which is intact. This highly collectable piece is in a good gauge of silver and was crafted by J&R Griffin in the early George V era, hallmarked for Chester 1912. This also makes the case highly collectable as the Chester Assay Office closed almost 60 years ago, in 1962, so pieces from here are gradually becoming harder to find.
It is in good antique condition overall, in my opinion, especially considering it is 108 years old. You can imagine what a wonderful, novel addition it would be to any collection! And remember, collecting silver is a fascinating hobby. As a welcome distraction in these troubled days, why not start your own collection of antique silver? It need not be expensive and you will have something to value and pass on when better times return. Rare antique pieces such as this are a super investment for the future! Last year I obtained my own hallmark at the London Assay Office. If you have any questions about antique silver, please feel free to contact me and I will try my best to answer your queries. Please note I do not do valuations.
This case is about 6cm by 4cm and 1.4cm depth. As noted, it is in good antique condition overall, especially considering it is 108 years old, just the usual signs of wear commensurate with age and use, light scratches, etc. There are no dents or dings. For completeness of detail only, the base is very slightly concave. Any dark marks, etc are reflections or bits of age-related patina.
