This lovely George III period sterling teacaddy was made by London maker William Vincent in 1783. It has gorgeous repousse work on it sides and top featuring roses and daisies, leaves, C scrolls, gadrooning, acanthus leaves and diapering and punchwork backgrounds. The repousse work surrounds a shield shaped escutcheon with contemporary initials that look to be JP to JP. The Caddy has a conforming lid with a neoclassical urn finial (held in place with an old but not original brass nut). It also has a complete lock (alas, no key) The both the base and the lid are marked with Vincent's hallmark and the lion rampant. The base is further marked with the date mark for 1783 and the crowned leopard's head. The tea caddy is 4 3/8" tall (including finial) x 4 1/2" wide x 3 deep. It weighs 311.2 grams. It could be argued that the repousse work on this piece might be Victorian but given the flat undisturbed hallmarks in the lid, I believe it to be contemporary with the making of the piece. Also, the decorative motifs could easily fit into the Georgian repertoire. The item "George III Period Sterling Repousse Oval Shaped Tea Caddy (Lon.
