Wonderful example of a fully working Georgian heavy Sterling silver c. 1834 Pair cased fusee verge pocket watch. Comes with a lovely original Victorian winding key. Beautiful pierced work by William Marriott of Northampton. Chain drive fusee with verge escapement.
The dial appears to have a minor repair to the edge. Hands look to be very clean and original. Glass might have been replaced but the watch isn't far off 190 years old. All cases have matching hallmarks: London Leopards head, Lion for. 925 sterling silver and't' for 1834, all marks match across all inner and outer cases.
Silver cases are in good condition with no major defects or dings. Fully cleaned and serviced in 2017. Feels lovely and heavy in the hand.
My scales only go to 100g and the kitchen scales showed c. Given the watch is c. 1834 it is likely to be made by William Marriott. Who is recorded as working from 1824-41. They were probably related to an earlier clockmaking family in nearby Oundle.
A beautiful, tactile, thing to own and look at / use but it's time to pass it on now. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER ITEMS AND PLEASE ASK IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. I have a full-time job so cannot always post straight away.I end my auctions on a Sunday evening to allow me to post on Monday (usually lunchtime). My charges are actually lower than the cost (stamp, padded envelope etc).
