This exceptional antique George III cut glass and sterling silver cruet set consists of a mustard pot, shaker, two large oil/vinegar bottles and four small oil/vinegar bottles displayed on the original associated stand. The original cut glass containers have a cylindrical tapering form with stepped shoulders with hobnail decoration to the upper portion and fluted decoration to the lower portion of the body. The circular spreading base of each piece has star cut ornamentation to the underside.
Each vessel of this fine Georgian cruet set is fitted with the original impressive hallmarked plain sterling silver mount. The mounts to each oil/vinegar bottle are encircled with subtle bands of tooled decoration. The upper rim of the shaker and mustard pot mounts are embellished with gadroon decorated borders.
The shaker and mustard pot retain the original imposing hallmarked push fit domed covers, embellished fluted decoration and surmounted with silver finials encircled with leaf decoration. Each of the bottles has a sterling silver lipped pouring collar, and is fitted with the original push fit glass stopper.
The large oil/vinegar bottles are fitted with substantial scrolling handles embellished with two bands of gadroon decoration. The components of this impressive antique set are displayed on the hallmarked plain serpentine style form stand. The stand is ornamented a gadroon decorated border around the rim. The stand incorporates the original thread decorated detachable hallmarked frame with eight receiver rings and four stopper rings held on four column style supports. The frame secures to the underside of the stand with four wing nuts.
The frame incorporates a central incurved shaped carrying handle embellished with further gadroon style decoration accented with a scrolling leaf, lobed and floral motif decoration to the terminal. This impressive, original stand is supported by four impressive Regency style feet. This antique cruet set is a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The applied decoration is very sharp.
Full hallmarks are struck to the underside of the stand, and part hallmarks to the rim of each mount and to the detachable frame are all very clear; the part hallmarks are as good as to be expected, there is some wear in keeping with age.
