Of classic George III style, this circular slaver displays softly rounded curves, with a raised beaded edge, interspersed with florets. A rather crisp hand chased garland of flora and fauna encircles the outer rim of the salver. Detailed bright work encompasses the outer field displaying scroll work amidst a grape and vine with fruit pattern. Angelic wings seem to be Incorporated into the pattern.
The salver measures 14 inches across, and weighs 1256 grams (2.77 lbs/oz) Stands on 4 sloped and steeped ball and claw feet. Clearly punched with the lion passant for English sterling, the leopards head with crown for London (prior to 1823) Date code of a small "a" for 1776 (made in the year of America's independence) Makers mark of CW within a rectangle for William Cripps.His work is most collectible. The slaver is in excellent antique condition displaying just a slight warp, and a small repair to outer edge. This wonderful lager slaver would make an excellent centerpiece for use, or a fine addition to any collection.
