Peter Jonathan Bateman Georgian 1790 Antique English Sterling Silver Caster
The makers of this sterling silver caster were Peter and Jonathan Bateman who were sons of Hester Bateman and were carrying on the business. They registered their mark of PB IB but unfortunately Joanathan died quite soon afterwards and so the mark was only used for 6 months and so it became the rarest of the Bateman family marks. This caster was hallmarked in London 1790. This caster is made with a thick gauge of silver and hallmarks are clear on both the body and the pull off lid.
There is attractive all over decoration to the caster and it stands firmly on a circular base. There is evidence of an old small repair to the lid. The design includes 3 cartouches, 2 of which are blank and the third has a single initial. A fine Georgian caster from the collectable Bateman family of silversmiths..
