Superb Georgian sterling silver pint tankard / mug, fully hallmarked for London 1781. This is a fine quality silver tankard made in the reign of King George III by the important lady silversmith, Hester Bateman, in London 1781. The tankard is of classic balluster shape and has a scroll handle with chased leaf thumbpiece. The tankard is 4-3/4 inches / 120 mm wide to the back of the handle and it stands 4-7/8 inches / 124 mm high. Made of thick gauge silver, the tankard weighs an impressive 323 grams. The underside has clear hallmarks - lion passant, London mark, letter f for 1781 and maker's mark HB for Hester Bateman. The tankard is in excellent condition with no dents, damage or repair.
