This is a fine Georgian sterling silver muffineer or small caster made by specialist caster maker Samuel Wood and hallmarked in London 1760(examples of Samuel Wood's silverwork on exhibition in the V&A Museum, London). It is in very good condition and made with a heavy gauge of silver. The pull off lid fits tightly, is attractively pierced and is finished with a flame finial. The body is engraved with a mythical animal griffin? And the mufineer stands firmly on a raised circular base.
